Having Fun With Food - Check It Out!

Although I may not enjoy cooking very much (and hate cleaning up after cooking even more!), I do love food and love getting creative with it.  It's amazing what you can do with a selection of fruits and vegetables and a sharp knife.

After doing some research online and with lots of help from Pinterest, we decided to have a fun food day creating different shapes and pictures with our favorite healthy foods.  If you're planning on preparing food for a special occasion such as Mother's Day, Father's Day, Christmas or Thanksgiving, check this out!

The following 7 dishes did take a bit of planning, and took a good 2 hours to prepare.  To hold the shapes together, you will need a box of toothpicks.  Also consider some special items.  For example, we used a twig for the bird below to sit on.  For the color white (such as for the whites of bird eyes), jicama is a great option!

For the sunflower, we filled the flower center with a black bean dip and used tabouli for the grass (substituting quinoa for cracked wheat is a great gluten free option).  The hedgehog is a whole pear with the outer peel removed from the "nose" with a grape for the nose-end.

Last but not least, kiwis, bananas, and oranges added a great tropical theme!
